Swim Meets 101

A few things you should know about this Saturday's meet:

Because of the smaller parking lot during construction, PLEASE carpool to the meet if possible. There is also overflow parking directly EAST of the club (the brown building on the East side of University) that is available for parking on the weekend. PLEASE be considerate of golfers who use the area directly east of the pool.

Swim Team FUNDRAISER:
During our home meets, we set up a fund-raising concession stand. Last year, we made enough money to purchase a team manager computer program that helps to keep track of times and meet information for our county entries. This year, we would like to put the money we earn towards a new pace clock, and some practice fins. If you would like to help us with this, we are in need of items to sell during the meet. Some of our TOP sellers include: fruit, drinks, water, DONUTS, cookies, chips, candy, etc. Please bring your donated items on the day of the meet. Thank you for your support with this.

For those of you who are new to swim team, or who have not competed before, here is a crash course on what to do/expect:
1) Before the meet: Make sure you pack goggles (maybe even some spares), at least 2 towels, your sweatshirt, snacks, and water.
2)When you arrive at the meet, check in with Christine or whichever coach is at the front gate. You will get green cards - one for each event. You will need to hang onto your cards until your event, so put them in a safe place. You will also get an RCC swim cap for those of you who want one. You get one cap per year. Replacements or additional caps can be purchased for $5.
3) When your event is called (there will be a number at the top), you will need to bring the card for that event to the BULLPEN (the place where lots of chairs are set up). Someone in the bullpen will be there to give a heat and lane assignment (basically the people working in the bullpen will get you to where you need to be). MAKE SURE you arrive on time to the bullpen. It makes it really difficult to run the meet smoothly if we have to stop or stick kids in additional heats.
4) Have fun! There are lots of coaches here to help. Just ask us if you have a question!
5) Ribbons will be at practice the Monday after the meet. At our pool, ribbons are given to the first 6 places in the event (so if there are multiple heats, we look at ALL the times from that age group to place the top 6).
