I apologize before this post for its length, but there is a lot of information I need to get to you, so please bear with me.
1) T-shirts are in. If you pre-ordered, please come pick up your shirt ASAP. If you didn't order one and still want one, I have some extras. They are $9.
2) Practice will run through next Friday, July 31. That will be the LAST day of swim team, however, those swimming in county should not swim the day of their meet (we don't want to tire the kids out). Next week, we will not be working out as much as try to help clean up things and help the kids to feel prepared for their meets. There is NO PRACTICE this Friday, July 24 because of the Pioneer Day holiday. Don't fret, we will see each other one more time. August 11 at 6:30 is the swim team banquet/bbq and pool party at the pool. County awards will be given out at this time, and all swimmers will receive an award that night. I'll send out more details on that after county.
3) I've had a lot of questions about county, so here's how it works. Each child had to participate in at least 2 meets in order to be eligible to swim in the county meets. If your child didn't swim in two, unfortunately they are done with their competition season but are welcome to continue to work out. If your child did participate in two meets, you should receive an email (if you provided me with that) that gives your child's top times and which meet those times qualified them for. Speaking of meet qualifying, the county has taken the past few years results and created time standards for each of the meets. There are a few reasons this is done. First, if we all went to the same meet, it would last forever and we would go crazy (really!). Second, this is a rec league and we want all swimmers to have a good experience whatever their level. So, the top 1/4 times in the county go to the Elite meet. The 2nd 1/4 go to the gold meet. The 3rd 1/4 go to Silver, and the bottom 1/4 go to Bronze. This allows for kids to compete against kids who are at the same skill level that they are. Swimmers will be seated according to times. Plaques are given for 1-8th place, and ribbons go to 16th. Relays are ribboned to 10th.
4) County Meet times:
Bronze at Spanish Fork on Tuesday, July 28th - Warm-ups 12:30/Meet starts at 1:30
Silver at Spanish Fork on Wednesday, July 29- Warm-ups 12:30/Meet starts at 1:30
Gold at Payson on Friday, July 31- Warm-ups 1pm/Meet starts at 2pm
Elite at Payson on Saturday, Aug. 1- Warm-ups 6:30 am/Meet starts at 7:30
5) County meets are long, hot and crowded. Bring shade, chairs, extra towels, food, water, and something to do. This meet is run on a timing system which is great unless we have a bunch of no-shows. It is critical that you tell me if you are not going to come to your assigned meet so that I can scratch your child and those of us who are there are not stuck watching empty lanes.
6) Thank you for all your support. We love your kids and are sad to see the season coming to a close. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thanks,
Christine
