This Saturday is our first meet of the year! Meets are not required, however, if your child wants to swim in the championship meet, they need to participate in at least 2 meets.
This meet will be at Riverside. Warm-ups will start at 7:30 and the meet starts at 8am. If you want to get a good seat, be on time. I know there are several new swimmers and "new swim team parents" so this is the low down on a meet.
-You will sign up for up to 3 individual events. If your child is just starting and can't quite do a legal breaststroke or butterfly, they can just do free and back. You can either sign up at practice on Friday with coaches, or on this google form by Friday at noon. The age cut off for this league is June 1, so whatever age you were on June 1 is your age for the entire summer (even if there is a birthday). All swimmers under 8 swim 25's (1 length of the pool), 9-10 year olds swim 50 for free and 25's for the others, 11-12 swim all 50's, 13-18 swim 50's, and 100's depending on the event.
-When you arrive check in with coaches to get your cards. We run the meet on cards, so your swimmer will pick up their cards. The card has their event number on it. Listen for the bullpen to call your event number so that you can get your swimmer to the bull pen (which is the area near the baby pool with lots of chairs lined up- don't sit here, this is for the swimmers). Once you get them to the bullpen, we will get them to their heat and lane. Then your job is to cheer and scream for them and bring them a towel when they hop out.
-Each swimmer will get a cap at practice this week (additional caps are $5). Swimmers do not have to wear it, but it helps us to identify our swimmers so we can cheer for them.
-Things to bring to a meet:
Swimmer :)
Suit/goggles
2-3 towels
Water
Snacks (we will have a small concessions stand as well)
Sweats/blanket (it gets cold for them in the morning)
Coaches will be there to help. Please don't hesitate to ask one of us for help if you need it. I'll be running the bullpen and it gets a little crazy in there but I will do my best to answer your question or direct you to a coach who can. If your child gets disqualified because they did something illegal (turning over onto their stomach on backstroke, pulled on the lane lines, etc), we will do our best to make it a teaching moment so they can improve. Swimmers receive ribbons 1-8 places. Sometimes kids get disappointed that they won their race and didn't get first. Sometimes we have 4-5 heats of kids swimming the same race, so ribbons are based on times, not by each heat.
*ALL suits, t-shirts, and goggles are here. If you haven't picked up something you ordered and paid for, come see me and I'll get it for you.
Thanks!
